For every minute of the clock, a fragment of text is taken from a webpage which contains the current time, but from a different day and / or year in history.

The WebClock contains text traces for 1440 minutes of the day and reflects the relation between man and time.  It is a collection or subjective time experience, relatively, even though the absolute clock is represented as numbers.

Note: screensaver version is a bit different to spare your screen – it has black background and every minute those 3 rectangles are in a different place.

During the analysis of the text, I drew some interesting conclusions:

In the morning people are more interested about the weather. Even if they have different motives in finding out we ather than a farmer who works outdoors!

There are people who expect the time to run fast, there are others who observe how fast the time is running, and there are those who live in time (live for the present).

These latter are the most positive.

The Night-owl type of person tend to talk about sleep. When they watch the clock they realize that they are distanced to what they should normally expect to do at this time.

In total when people mention time they are often talking about how tired they are. This is a good reflection of our society’s needs to slow down.

The WebClock was made for the art’s 1.000.047 ‘th birthday and exhibited in  Saint George/Seklerland/Transylvania/Romania in 2010 January 15.
